Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Bala Kuryas,promised to tackle the menace of armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, illegal revenue collections and other security challenges in the state.

This he stated at a press conference in Awka the state capital after visiting some black spots and flashpoints at Enugu-Agidi, Ukwulu roads; Toll Gate, Borromeo roundabout; Head bridge Onitsha; Upper Iweka; Owerri Road/Aba Park and Nkpor Roundabout in Idemili North Local Government Area.

The CP said the purpose of the visits is to have local knowledge of the area and to obtain first hand information about the pattern of crimes being perpetrated in those areas with a view to curtailing them through effective deployment and visibility patrols.

In a related development, suspected armed robbers,cultists were rounded up by the police across the state.

In Onitsha ,police operatives attached to 3-3 Division, in collaboration with the local vigilante group, arrested Debele Chukwu Mbanugo of Nkwelle Ezunaka with one pump action rifle in his possession, he admitted to have stolen it from 3-3 Police Station during the #Endsars protests.
Akso ,police patrol team attached to Inland Town Division, arrested Bright Blessed Nnakwe of Umueze Village Anam in his possession is an English made pistol and a loaded magazine.

Also, police operatives attached to Okija Division, arrested Chinaza Okoma and Onyebuchi Maduka in a residential apartment at Oghalebu Okija with two pump action rifles, and eleven cartridges which they could not give satisfactory account of it.
Furthermore, Puff Adder operatives, in conjunction with a police patrol team attached to Ogbaru Division, arrested Ebuka Obaze of Ochuche Village, Umuodo in Ogbaru LGA of Anambra State with a cut to size locally made double barrel gun.

Moreover, Cultist were also rounded up following a credible intelligence report about a secret cult initiation, police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti-Cult Unit, arrested five suspects, Duru David,Ugochukwu Meniru,Nwaoba Chukwudi,Kalu Chukwudi and Nnayelu Oputa, the suspects confessed to be members of a secret cult group called, “PAYTON CONFRATERNITY”.

Raided also were various hideouts at Ogidi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State were Okpoto Chukwudi,Odo Arinze and Eze Izuchukwu all natives of Izaa mgbo town of Ebonyi State were arrested for being members of “Vikings Confraternity,” recovered in their possession are matchets, axe and berets

All cases, he said are under investigation after which suspects will be charged to court for prosecution. A total of four pump action rifles, one English made pistol, one locally made gun and eleven cartridges, were recovered by the operatives.
