Automobile Spare parts traders at Iweka road/ Modebe Onitsha, today clashed with ASMATA road decongestion officials that thuggishly manhandled some traders and their union chairman over seizure of goods they claimed were displayed wrongly on dranaige channels and on the tarred road leading to demonstrations by the aggrieved traders over the ASMATA OFFICIALS  unchecked nefarious activities within their market area.

According to the Union chairman Mr. Chinwedu Godwin Okoye the protests resulted in fights with dangerous weapons as the traders were attacked by the ASMATA thugs inflicting various degrees of injuries to their union members and this enraged the traders who blocked  the roads leading to Onitsha main market as bonfires were made by the rampaging traders who chased after the ASMATA OFFICIALS absconding with seized goods in their vehicles.

The Chairman Mr. Chinwedu Godwin Okoye explained to news men that their members never display their goods on the road or on drainage channels as their shops were well built and also adequately marked by their union taskforce that works tirelessly to ensure compliance with the set down rules as it relates to wares sampling.

He rather regretted the actions of ASMATA thugs that always makes seizures of traders goods being loaded or offloaded from stationed vehicles in front of their shops with impunity, and that’s the crux of the whole protest by the traders who resisted their nefarious actions..

However, it took the intervention of Anambra State Vigilante Group(AVG) from Onitsha main market whom their timely intervention averted blood baths as their efforts helped in recovering the traders  seized goods from ASMATA OFFICIALS which doused the already tensed atmosphere.

Efforts to get the ASMATA chairman to comment on the development was not successful as calls placed to his mobile

Phone was not answered as he was not on seat in his office by the time of filling this report.
